The Maximum Groovity 5 successfully pushed through on Oct. 3, 2009 even on the onset of a storm. Cancelled during the previous week because of the typhoon Ondoy, 25 dance groups from 22 different schools battled it out on stage, with Crossroads 77 on Mother Ignacia, Diliman, Quezon City  serving as the venue for the much-awaited dance competition organized by MegaEventsManila.

The TIP Talents Guild of Quezon City emerged as the competition's victor. It was a double win for the Ateneo de Manila University as well as they bagged the first runner-up award for the Company of Ateneo Dancers - Jazz, and the second runner-up award for the Company of Ateneo Dancers - Street. The People's Choice Award meanwhile went to the De La Salle University Dance Company - Street.

The third time proved to be the charm for the TIP Talents Guild of Quezon City, whose feat in the Maximum Groovity history might as well go down as one of the most inspiring dance success story in the world of  Philippine inter-school dance competitions. "We started out in Maximum Groovity as third placer," choreographer Rabby Dayrit shared. "By our second year in the competition, we were on the second spot. This time, we made sure that what we will offer is an upgraded version of all the previous performances we had. And hard work does pay off, as for this year, we finally earned the maximum honor this dance competition can bestow any dancer."

The CADS - Jazz' unique, military-inspired number was a standout, and winning the 1st runner-up award made group head Kryz Uy at total loss for words she could only thank God. The beautiful dancers of the group were all ecstatic they hugged anyone in sight. Rounding off the win for Ateneo was the CADS - Street on the 2nd runner-up spot, whose "experimentation" with the mad-scientist theme did work . In choreographer Carl Flor's own words, the group wanted to show something "exploded", "something which plays with the concept of split personality".

Another highlight of the evening was the performance of the New System Dance Crew from Ramon Magsaysay High School. The group's strong stunts, only worthy of a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon comparison, made it apparent why these guys were the previous year's winner.

The panel of judges included Jay Mastah, Christian Marco from Hotlegs, and Jhong Mesina from GrooveJackz and formerly of Philippine All Stars.
