Continuing the previous article, let's move on in discussing Club Erotic Dance.





II. CLUB EROTIC DANCE


A. Go-go Dance








Go-go dance started in the early 1960s when women in night clubs began getting up on tables and dance the twist. Many female club goers who were part of what was called as go go boots went to different night clubs and dance. Night club promoters saw theri potential in drawing a crowd and so they started to hire them to entertain patrons. Basically, go go dancers are employed to entertain the crowd at a discotheque.


The term Go-Go is derived from the French expression a gogo meaning "in abudance, galore". Go-go has been derived from the ancient French word la gogue meaning "joy, happiness".


Go-Go Dancing through the Years











In the 1960s, Carol Doda started go-go dancing topless after undergoing breast implants at the Condor Club on Broadway and Columbus in San Francisco. Her remarkable daringness paid off as she is still the world's most famous go-go dancer.











During the Vietnam War in the 1970s, many Go-go bars opened in Thailand, which has been portrayed in the award winning broadway musical Ms. Saigon.











G.G Barnum's Room has been patronized by transsexuals. The club made the male go-go dancers danced on trapezes above a net over the dance floor.











Xenon Night club provided go-go boxes for amateur go-go dancers to dance on. This influenced a lot of people's interest in go-go dancing.











Madonna's 1980s songs and performaonces with go-go dancers in her music videos and concerts heightened the popularity of go-go dancing. Some of her timeless 1980s hits with her signature go-go moves are: Holiday, Lucky Star, Boderline, Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Into the Groove, Open Your Heart and Express Yourself.











Right now, Go-go dancing is making a comeback in Vegas. They do not usually strip but they are given tips. In enertainement, go-go dancing is what dancers and/or singers ddo for people to notice them and eventually get themselves to stardom. In fitness, go-go dancing has been incorporated in pole, belly and strip and tease dance classes. These shall be discussed at the last installment of this article.





B. Cage Dance








CAGE DANCE is an erotic dance performed inside a cage either at a night club. It originated in the 1960s and became popular with the coming of disco music. The practice began specifically in Los Angeles, in a club called the Whisky a Go Go.











The club has only been known to be a discotheque wherein only recordings were played but its management dared to be different and hired a band led by Johnn Rivers and a short skirted girl DJ who was spinnig records between sets from a suspended cage at the right side of the stage. When the female DJ danced during a set, the audience thought it was part of the act and so the concept of Go-Go dancers in cages was formulated.











Recently, both genders have been dancing in cages. The Go go boys can regularly be seen cage dancing in cages at night clubs patronized by homosexuals.





C. Table Dance








TABLE DANCE or BARTOP DANCE is an erotic dance performed on a patron's table, instead on a stage. In some areas of jurisdictions, a table dance is considered as an alternative to a lap dance (to be discussed in the next article), due to the laws preventing the dancers from making contact with their customers.











Inspired with the genre and the culture, the movie Coyote Ugly, set in New York City, depicts the life of the table dancers. The manager encourages women to jump and dance on the bar and lets them leave their brassiere hanging from the ceiling as a remembrance of their performance. LeAnn Rimes also does the table dance as she sings Can't Fight the Moonlight, the movie's OST in both the end of the film and her music video.
